According to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, “There are many
little ways to enlarge your child’s world. Love of books is the best of all.”
It is very true.
The main role of a teacher is to teach
his students the importance of books and reading. It is a must because no one
will learn from the different lessons or subjects if he or she has no interest
in reading books. The learning starts as the child begins to open his book.
It is therefore a challenge for every
teacher, especially to the primary teachers, who handle beginners. Or even the
intermediate teachers. They, too, needs to further children’s love of reading
and pursue what they have received from the lower level. Continuance is still
important. Thus, every educator should intervene in dealing with this great demand
for learning and furtherance. If he deals with it correctly and meaningfully,
learners will only learn, they too will inherit the gift of understanding and
artistry.
Reading is indeed a wonderful and
magical journey, which every child needs to experience. There’s no better place
to travel than exploring the books and going deep into it. Children are fond of
exploring, thus they must be given a world, in a form of books, where they can
create their lives, dreams, and futures, and where they feel hope and security.
It is a small effort for teachers however it creates a big impact to their hearts
and minds.
Book, alone, is a fascinating world,
which everyone can appreciate. And, reading is the best activity of all. It must
be inculcated to children’s minds. It must be advocated.
In every classroom or home, reading
hub must be put up. It is the world we can give to the children. It is one way
of showing them how big the small world is.
